An educational seminar on the new Civil Procedure Rules and their effect on insurance claims was organised by the Insurance Association of Cyprus (IAC) in collaboration with the Cyprus Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FIL), on the 4th of April 2023. A large number of insurance executives as well as members of their claims and legal departments attended the seminar which focused on the new Rules of Civil Procedure which are expected to come into effect in September 2023.
Our partner Mr. Avgerinos Hartsiotis was a keynote speaker along with Mr. Michael Philippou, Partner at Haviaras & Philippou LLC and Mr. Nicolas Kyriakides, Partner at Harris Kyriakides.
The first part of the seminar included a general introduction to the new CPR, followed by an in-depth analysis of the pre-action protocols, the consequences of non-compliance and three specific rules which are deemed to be essential when dealing with insurance claims:
- Offer to settle
- Interim payments
- Expert witnesses
The second part included a workshop during which the attendants were split into working groups. Each group had to respond to a hypothetical scenario and answer specific questions by applying the new rules in a practical manner.
